Goal: To equip Black mothers with the knowledge, tools, and trusted referrals needed to navigate institutions and access appropriate supports confidently.

The Black Mothers Institutional Navigation & Empowerment Program equips Black mothers with the knowledge, tools, and trusted referrals needed to navigate complex systems with greater confidence. Through educational resources, workshops, guides, and referral pathways, the program strengthens self-advocacy and helps mothers engage institutions more effectively and from a more informed position.

Inputs

  • Curated database of vetted service providers (legal, finance, housing, healthcare, education, and social services)
  • Partnerships with frontline organizations (who do provide 1:1 support)
  • Educational curriculum and toolkits
  • Digital platform (resource hub, guides, referrals)
  • Staff/researchers (not caseworkers)

Activities

  • Educational workshops (e.g., “Navigating Child Welfare or the Educational System” “Your Rights in Healthcare or Housing”)
  • Development of navigation toolkits and guides
  • Resource navigation sessions (light-touch, information-based—not case management)
  • Referral pathways to trusted partner organizations
  • Webinars, info sessions, and system literacy campaigns
